Xavi Hernandez’s future as Barcelona manager has taken a significant turn over the last 72 hours, with it now being far from certain that he will stay on – despite committing himself to the club until the end of next season only a few weeks ago.

Xavi announced in January that he would be stepping down, but he was later convinced to stay on as head coach by Joan Laporta, Deco and co – the same people that now want him to be sacked.

Xavi had been prepared to forego the remaining salary in his contract when he announced his decision to leave, although he may not take the same stance if he is sacked in the coming weeks. Sport say that the total cost for paying out compensation to Xavi and his coaching staff would be in the region of €18m.

Xavi was very charitable before when he was prepared to take no money from Barcelona, but you’d understand it completely if he didn’t take the same stance this time around.
